What does DNS stand for?

DNS is an abbreviation of Domain Name Server. A DNS is where you domain name is hosted.

DNS functions similar to an index in a book, or a catalogue system in a library. It directs web and mail traffic addressed to the domain name, on to the correct web and mail servers in a hosting environment. At the most basic level, DNS translates the domain name to the actual computer IP address of the server that manages the web and mail for that domain name.
